Considering Adopting ?

National Adoption Week 2025

This year's National Adoption Week (NAW) ran from 20 to 26 October. Lots of activity took place to mark the week including our own, in partnership with adoption agencies and other organisations.

A Welcome Home campaign

We launched the latest national You Can Adopt campaign at the start of NAW. Based on the theme 'A Welcome Home', the campaign showcases lots of adoptive families from across the country, celebrating 'perfectly imperfect' family homes built through adoption. It aims to inspire more people to consider adopting by showing that children don't need perfection - what matters most is a warm, welcoming place to call home.

The campaign featured in over 60 national and regional media pieces and counting, including TV, radio and print and lots of in-depth interviews with adopters. We're delighted that the campaign achieved record-breaking figures for social media engagement across Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. If you don't already, please do follow You Can Adopt to see more from our wonderful adoptive families who kindly share their stories. You can also still find out more about the campaign at youcanadopt.co.uk/naw and keep an eye out for further activity encouraging more Black adults to consider adopting at Black Adopters | You Can Adopt.

Events

During NAW we launched a two-part webinar exploring Linking and Matching, for anyone considering adoption as well as professionals. The webinars brought together 175 participants, including members of the public considering adoption, prospective adopters currently in assessment, and professionals wanting to deepen their understanding of family finding, linking and matching. You can watch both webinars here.

We worked with PAC-UK who delivered a range of in-person and online events, bringing together over 350 adopted people, birth parents, and adoptive parents to explore the many layers of adoption and identity.

Birth mum, Kirsty Holt, has also written a powerful blog about the birth parents conference PAC-UK | National Adoption Week: A birth parent’s perspective – by Kristy Holt.

We also partnered with Adoption UK who delivered a series of online workshops for anyone considering adopting, covering the themes of physical and mental health, money and home, identity, and support.

They also recorded a podcast episode with adult adoptee James Evans and adopter Daf James, writer for the BBC drama ‘Lost Boys and Fairies’.  Over 350 people have listened to the episode so far. You can listen at National Adoption Week | Adoption UK Charity.
