Family Rights Group launches Birth Families Support Map

Family Rights Group has developed the Birth Families Support Map, with funding from Adoption England.

The map is for birth relatives of children who have been adopted, are being adopted, or may be adopted, and who are looking for information or support. The terms ‘birth relatives’ and ‘birth family’ mean the biological family of a child.

The map is the first of its kind in England and allows birth families to search for adoption support and information services available in their area using their postcode.

The map includes information about services that are free for birth families, including those which offer:

  • General or legal advice and information about adoption
  • Advocacy support when dealing with children’s services and other agencies
  • Counselling or therapeutic support
  • Support groups
  • Support with contact with an adopted child
  • Support for birth family members to access adoption records and information(some services included in the map may charge a fee for this kind of service).
